‘All In’ With Platnum – Supporting Lighthouse Goa

Bespoke jewellery and creating unusual and unique pieces for like minded individuals is our one of our two deepest passions –  the other is MUSIC!! When we started Smash & Grab we wanted to make it our mission to work with upcoming artists and DJs. We have recently done just that, teaming up with All In Recordings, a new Manchester based independent record label who are about to take over the music world!

The first act to launch, (or re-launch more specifically having racked up a string of hits previously before taking some time out) are Manchester’s brightest young stars, Platnum A.K.A Aaron, Michelle and Mina. They have just completed an album consisting of some weighty collaborations with established producers such as Poet (Will I Am collaborated for Black Eyed Peas ) and Chew Fu who has produced for such acts as Lady Gaga , Mariah Carey and Katy Perry to name but a few.

Having got to know the trio through mutual friends and a spot of coincidental universal alignment, we were delighted when they decided to take our jewellery to LA to wear whilst they were over filming their latest video Solar System.

We caught up with them on their return at a charity event for the Lighthouse Project, an amazing cause run by the family of our mutual friends from Manchester, who run an orphanage in Goa. It was great to see the guys turn up and perform and we were also happy to see the gorgeous Mina fully decked out in Smash & Grab…

Of course this is just the start of things… pre-order Platnum’s new single Solar System on iTunes here and stay tuned for the 2012 takeover… All In!!

Bespoke Jewellery Is The ‘Next Big Thing’

Bespoke and unique jewellery has been a rising trend several years, with major players such as Links of London and Pandora seeing their customisable charm jewellery become surefire hits on millions of teenage girl’s wishlists worldwide.

Pandora has managed to create a $10bn business in over 50 countries with their ‘limited edition’ trinkets and multiple choice style customisation that ensures each piece differs (even if only slightly) from the next.

This is not expected to a fleeting trend, according to industry experts quoted in Jeweller Magazine, the bespoke jewellery markets only set to get more personal…

According to the report by Tim Grey, bespoke jewellery is no longer a luxury of the obscenely rich – consumers of every type are demanding accessories created specifically for them…

“It’s not a just a fad, which makes sense: very few objects are worn as intimately or given quite as much symbolic significance as jewellery. Now, an increasing number of retailers and designers are offering a ‘storied’ experience to their customers.

While bespoke jewellery has been available in the high-end for some time, pioneers in the charm-bracelet market – particularly Pandora – are driving its popularity in less affluent markets.

However the trend is not confined to international brands, many local designers are honing-in on people’s desire to wear something unique.”

At Smash & Grab whilst we offer a range of online products with a set range of charms and features, we strongly believe that jewellery should be personal. The very thing that we loved when we had our ‘Eureka’ moment top create jewellery from broken glass was that every piece was different from the next…

Although we offer a customisable range of charms to add to our bracelets and necklaces online to cater to a wider audience, we love nothing more than being asked to create a bespoke piece.

And to verify the trend referenced by Jeweller, since starting up we have actually had more requests for bespoke than for orders from our limited edition range.

If you are interested in going bespoke with Smash & Grab, simply contact us with your requests. What’s more, as all of our pieces are hand made to order, there is currently no extra cost… take advantage now!!

Jewellery Inspiration From Dubai: All That Glitters

Independent jewellery brands need to keep their product as unique and exclusive as possible, according recently published research highlighted by Sterling Silver in this Jeweller Magazine article.

At Smash & Grab we like to use our own personal photographs from our travels to keep our offer fresh…. Ok, we put our hands up and admit it, we’ll use just about any excuse to go globe trotting, but when the doom and gloom of January truly sets in, who’s really going to say no to hot footing it over to the Middle East for an ‘inspirational jaunt’?!

With little persuasion required, one half of S&G was on a plane to Dubai within a flash, vowing to return with some fresh ideas, hot pics for jewellery inspiration and a tan. Well two out of three ain’t bad…. (You can’t help being pale skinned okay!!)

Blessed with a room with a view of the Dubai marina, every single morning brought the visual treat of the sun rising over the mesmerising cityscape… (This was far more welcome the first morning as opposed to the days when the fire in the sky seemed a rude awakening following crashing into bed an hour earlier at 5am!) Definitely beats the grey view of Manchester at this time of year though!

Naturally, we set about experimenting with some of these fabulous graphic images straight away…

We’re excited to get started on these bad boys now… Keep your eyes peeled for more coming in collections this Summer 2012!

Smash… Grab… GO!

It’s official… Smash & Grab’s online jewellery shop is officially open for business… Just in time for Christmas!

We are extremely proud to launch our site and online store housing our brand new line of independent, limited edition and bespoke jewellery – courtesy of Lexnia Web Design.

Smash & Grab was established to provide a new concept for costume jewellery, salvaging recycled glass to create a line in which each piece is entirely unique. Due to the natural variation in our signature shattered glass, our range is free from repetition, enhanced by limited edition charms and silver.

In addition to the unique characteristics provided by the shattered glass, we are on a mission to restore old jewellery to recreate brand new, bespoke pieces. With the help of  our Charm Amnesty we are building up a stock of  vintage trinkets to create one  off designs and provide discount in return for donations….
